Senator Bivins Congratulates Sterling Little League Softball
Sterling, IL- State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon) congratulated the Sterling Little League Softball team on Friday, September 5 on their history making accomplishment. The assembly, held at Sterling High School, was the first time the team was officially recognized in front of their classmates for their 3rd place finish at the Little League Softball World Series.
“The girls are a credit to our community and the entire Central Region that they represented,” said Bivins “It is a great honor to recognize these athletes for their achievement.”
The Central Regional champs went all the way to Portland, Oregon to compete against teams from all across the globe. The 11 players and the 2 coaches made the journey west to compete in the week long tournament.
“Playing in the Little League Softball World Series is quite an accomplishment, but having such success on that stage is even more remarkable,” said Bivins. “The girls will remember this unique opportunity for the rest of their lives.”
The team showed a winning attitude by coming back to achieve 3rd in the World Series after suffering a 1-0 set back the day prior.
“The lessons learned on the field will be applied to everyday situations,” said Bivins. “Having been a coach for many years, I understand the importance of teamwork, dedication and selflessness, traits required to win on and off the field.”
